This is the official blog of The Stony Brook Statesman and the online supplement to The Sucolian literary magazine.
The Stony Brook Statesman was founded as “The Sucolian” in 1957 at Oyster Bay, the original site of Stony Brook University. In 1975 “The Statesman” was incorporated as a not-for-profit, student-run organization. Its editorial board, writing, and photography staff are student volunteers while its business staff are professionals.
The Stony Brook Statesman is published twice-weekly on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the fall and spring semesters.

The Sucolian began as a continual discussion between Statesman writers and editors craving a creative outlet, in addition to the journalistic output of The Statesman. The print supplement is slated for publication in Spring 2009, while the online version is hosted here. All literary and artistic contributions from the Stony Brook University community are welcome. The name of our magazine pays homage to the original name of The Statesman. The Statesman was founded in the fall of 1957 as The Sucolian, for the “State University Campus On Long Island” at Oyster Bay, which was the university’s name and location until 1962.
